HID Introduces Updates to Accelerate Mobile Access Adoption
New capabilities allow organizations to transition to smartphone credentials while retaining existing access control hardware
HID has introduced a series of updates designed to help organizations move from physical access cards to smartphone-based credentials without replacing existing compatible door readers.
According to Security Today, the new functionality enables HID Signo and iCLASS SE readers to process mobile access requests using existing Seos security keys. This allows organizations to activate smartphone credentials without replacing readers or carrying out manual firmware updates at every door.
The update also expands HID's mobile access ecosystem. Support for Samsung Wallet has been added, while new services are designed to simplify user enrollment and deployment. HID Linq Mobile also enables administrators to manage compatible reader configurations through mobile devices using Bluetooth Low Energy and NFC.
The development highlights an important direction in the access control industry: modernizing existing door hardware rather than replacing an entire system.
For building owners and facility managers, the ability to introduce mobile credentials while maintaining existing infrastructure could reduce the need for extensive hardware replacement and on-site work.
As mobile access becomes increasingly integrated into physical security systems, compatibility, interoperability and the ability to upgrade existing hardware are becoming important considerations for access control providers and buyers.
