Pay attention to the moisture resistance performance of the smart lock

Guangdong has recently experienced a humid climate of "returning to the south", with significant increases in indoor humidity in many areas, resulting in walls, ceilings, and glass surfaces being covered with water mist. This special climate phenomenon not only brings inconvenience to daily life, but also causes a series of malfunctions caused by damp electrical appliances.

A woman in Jiangmen recently experienced a malfunction in her smart door lock due to the influence of "returning to the south", making it difficult for her to enter her home. According to reports, the woman encountered multiple recognition failures while attempting to unlock using facial recognition function, and even the door lock automatically failed to recognize and locked without entering a password.

Expert analysis suggests that the large amount of water mist covering the door lock is likely the main cause of the malfunction of the smart lock. Water mist affects the normal operation of the camera, making it difficult to accurately recognize facial features. In addition, it cannot be ruled out that water may enter the interior of the door lock due to moisture, further causing damage to the camera and motherboard, or a short circuit on the motherboard.

"Returning to the South" is a unique weather phenomenon in the southern region, usually occurring in spring. As the temperature warms up, the humidity also increases significantly. Under such weather conditions, the moisture in the air approaches saturation, resulting in an abnormally humid environment that not only affects the normal operation of electrical equipment, but may also have adverse effects on human health.

In response to this phenomenon, residents in southern regions need to pay special attention to the electrical equipment in their homes, especially safety facilities such as door locks. During the "Returning to the South" period, it is recommended to regularly check the working status of electrical equipment such as door locks and take appropriate dehumidification measures, such as using dehumidifiers, opening windows for ventilation, etc., to avoid equipment damage caused by moisture. Meanwhile, carrying a physical key has become an effective means of responding to emergencies during this period.

With the end of "Returning to the South", the southern region will usher in even drier weather. During this period, residents should seize the opportunity to inspect and maintain their home appliances to ensure that they can work normally in the coming days. At the same time, we should also strengthen our awareness of moisture prevention to cope with similar weather conditions that may occur in the future.

Similar to the unique "returning to the south sky" in the south, the condensation water phenomenon in winter in the north may also have adverse effects on smart door locks. When the north enters winter, indoor temperatures are higher due to heating, while outdoor temperatures are usually maintained below zero degrees Celsius. The large temperature difference between indoor and outdoor can easily lead to the occurrence of condensation water.

Condensed water is generated by the encounter of outdoor cold air and indoor warm and humid air. When outdoor cold air comes into contact with warmer surfaces indoors, such as metal parts such as door locks, water droplets will form and seep into the interior of the door lock, causing a short circuit between the motherboard and the wiring. Once the main board or circuit of the door lock is damaged, the smart lock may not function properly.

Under normal circumstances, smart locks from major brands undergo rigorous moisture and corrosion resistance tests. This includes applying three proof paint on the motherboard and applying waterproof glue to the circuit plug to ensure normal operation in normal humid environments. Therefore, it is crucial for consumers to choose products from legitimate manufacturers when purchasing smart locks.

With the increasing popularity of smart locks, the phenomenon of smart lock failures caused by condensation water in the southern and northern winters is bound to continue to increase. Therefore, major smart lock manufacturers should pay more attention to the waterproof and moisture-proof issues of smart locks, and completely solve consumers' worries.
